MS Dhoni — Chennai Super Kings Player Profile, Role & IPL Record
Chennai Super Kings · IPL 2026 squad (date-stamped) · Profile updated 26 October 2026
Chennai Super Kings fans looking up MS Dhoni usually want three things — the role, the record and the 2027 outlook. All three are covered here, with anything unverified clearly marked instead of filled in.
MS Dhoni and the CSK Squad Picture
Selection at CSK is a weekly puzzle of form, fitness and match-ups, and MS Dhoni is one of the pieces the coaching staff moves around that board. The verified role on file is: Wicketkeeper-batter. Anything beyond that — full career lines, age, detailed splits — waits in the table below as PENDING until official records confirm it, because a profile that guesses helps nobody prepare for a season.
Consider where Chennai Super Kings stand historically: 5 championship(s), won in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023. Squads that carry that kind of past get measured against it every April, and MS Dhoni is part of the group expected to keep CSK in the playoff argument. The margins are thin — one win separated fourth from seventh in the 2026 table — so squad players in MS Dhoni's bracket often decide seasons without ever headlining them.

MS Dhoni — IPL 2027 Outlook
The 2027 campaign gives MS Dhoni a clean runway: a reported 10 March start, 74 matches across India, and a Chennai Super Kings side with clear ambitions. Whether MS Dhoni becomes a first-choice pick or a high-value squad option will be one of the smaller stories that decide how far CSK go. All of it plays out against the backdrop of the aftershock of the December mini-auction, when released stars reshuffle every depth chart.
Overseas-player limits mean Indian squad depth carries a premium that shows up every time an international star is rested or rotated. And hovering over all of it is the auction cycle — every performance is also an entry in next December's spreadsheet. There is also the matter of the crowd: home supporters learn squad players' names slowly, then defend them fiercely once a season turns on their work.
