THE OVERHAUL — Delhi Capitals rebuilt their coaching staff through October 2026 ahead of IPL 2027, in a month of announcements this site had not yet covered as its own update. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was named head coach on 6 October, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh joined as assistant and batting coach on 13 October, former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas was appointed fast-bowling coach on 17 October, and former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra completed the group as spin-bowling coach on 21 October.
GANGULY TAKES CHARGE — Ganguly succeeds Hemang Badani as head coach, after a long association with the franchise that included a spell as its Director of Cricket. The change sits inside the co-owners' alternating two-year arrangement, under which JSW Sports runs the franchise's operations for the 2027 and 2028 seasons after GMR Sports. "Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart, and one that I have shared a strong relationship with over the years," Ganguly said in the franchise's announcement.
YUVRAJ'S FIRST COACHING ROLE — Yuvraj's appointment as assistant and batting coach, announced on 13 October, is his first formal coaching role in the IPL. He played one season for Delhi Capitals as a player and now reunites with Ganguly in the dugout. "I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals," Yuvraj said. "I am also looking forward to teaming up with Dada [Sourav Ganguly], this time as coaches."
VAAS AND MISHRA COMPLETE THE BOWLING GROUP — Vaas, announced on the franchise's official X account on 17 October, takes charge of the fast bowlers, replacing Munaf Patel, who held the role for the previous two seasons. Mishra, announced on 21 October, takes charge of the spinners in his first coaching assignment after a playing career of 162 IPL matches and 174 wickets, including a best of 5 for 17. He remains the only bowler to have taken three IPL hat-tricks, one each for three different teams.
THE CONTEXT — The overhaul follows a disappointing run for Delhi Capitals, who finished sixth in IPL 2026 and missed the playoffs, and it mirrors the coaching resets already covered on this site at Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. On the playing side, Delhi Capitals have already been active in the trade window, bringing Rishabh Pant back from Lucknow Super Giants and trading T. Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Zeeshan Ansari, as covered in this site's retention-deadline update.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT — The new group's first major task is the retention lists due on 15 November 2026, ahead of the trade-window close on 9 December and the mini-auction on 16 December 2026 at ITC Grand Goa. See the DC squad page and the retention-deadline update for what those dates mean. No player squad change is involved in these appointments, and this site's team pages carry no coach field, so no team squad page changes in this rebuild.
