The IPL auction is heading home. After editions in Jeddah (2025 mega auction) and Abu Dhabi (2026 mini-auction), reports say the 2027 mini-auction will be held on 16 December 2026 at ITC Grand Goa — the first IPL auction on Indian soil since 2022. A franchise briefing is reported for 15 December. The BCCI has not yet issued its formal announcement, so this site carries the date as strongly reported, not confirmed.
As a mini-auction, the event tops up existing squads rather than rebuilding them. Most players are already under contract from the 2025 mega-auction cycle; the pool will be made of released players, new domestic and overseas names, and replacements. That structure usually means fewer lots but sharper bidding wars over scarce roles — Indian wicketkeeper-batters, left-arm pace and finishers.
One rule will shape the day: the overseas maximum-fee cap. At mini-auctions an overseas player's salary is capped at Rs 18 crore, with any surplus over that figure in the winning bid going to the BCCI for player welfare. Cameron Green's Rs 25.20 crore KKR bid in 2026 — the overseas record — was paid under exactly this rule.
Purse-remaining figures per team depend on official retention and release lists, which franchises publish in the run-up to the auction. Our auction hub carries a purse table that stays marked PENDING until each list is official; the moment lists land, the table and every affected team and player page on this site are updated in the same rebuild.
What would count as a surprise? A released captain-level Indian player entering the pool, or a franchise freeing a top-slab overseas slot late. December auctions reward the prepared: in 2026, KKR and CSK arrived with the two largest purses and landed Green and the uncapped record-breaker Prashant Veer (Rs 14.20 crore) respectively.
