THE ANNOUNCEMENT — Mumbai Indians announced on Friday 30 October 2026 the appointment of Robin Uthappa as batting coach, Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach, T. Dilip as fielding coach and Dhawal Kulkarni as development bowling coach for IPL 2027. The four join head coach Kieron Pollard in what the franchise calls a new-look coaching group, combining long Mumbai Indians associations with international coaching experience.
UTHAPPA TAKES THE BATTING ROLE — Uthappa, the former India batter, played for Mumbai Indians in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and is a two-time IPL winner. This is his first coaching stint with an IPL team since he retired from the league after the 2022 season, and he fills the batting-coach role Pollard himself held for the previous four seasons.
MCCLENAGHAN REPLACES MALINGA — Former New Zealand left-arm pacer Mitchell McClenaghan returns to the franchise he represented between 2015 and 2020, playing a key role in three title-winning campaigns, and takes over as bowling coach directly from Lasith Malinga, whose departure was confirmed on 29 October 2026.
DILIP AND KULKARNI — T. Dilip joins as fielding coach after serving as India's fielding coach, including from 2021 to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25 and again for a year in 2025. Dhawal Kulkarni, a two-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians in 2013 and 2020 who represented the franchise across two spells from 2008 to 2013 and again in 2020-21, takes a year-round development bowling coach role that the franchise says will ensure continuity in its performance programme and support for young seam bowlers.
THE OVERHAUL COMPLETE — The appointments finish a week of change that began with Pollard's promotion to head coach on 24 October 2026 and continued with the departures of Malinga, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson on 29 October 2026. Director of Cricket Rahul Sanghvi and team manager Prashant Jangam are retained in the coaching and support structure.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT — The new group's first major task is the retention lists due on 15 November 2026, ahead of the mini-auction on 16 December 2026 at ITC Grand Goa.
